Description

The Masahiro Maruyama MM-0101 col. 1 Black Gold is a unisex optical frame from the Kintsugi collection, inspired by the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by highlighting the fractures. In Maruyama’s language, these lines become part of the frame’s design and embody the concept of "Unfinished Art," which finds beauty in irregularity and imperfection.

The acetate front features a wide, aviator-inspired shape, reinterpreted through squared proportions and a strongly graphic construction. The Black finish dominates the frame, while subtle Gold incisions and lines run irregularly across the front: they appear as actual fractures reassembled with gold, directly referencing the Kintsugi technique. This variant is officially identified as No.1 Black – Gold.

The central area is particularly successful, with golden lines crossing the bridge and branching out toward the top of the front. These are not merely applied decorations, but elements that visually alter the geometry of the glasses, intentionally breaking the continuity of the black surface. The result is bold and contemporary, yet less eccentric than some of the designer's more complex titanium constructions.

The dimensions are 53-18-145 mm; the front and temples are made of acetate, and the model is Made in Japan. The Masahiro Maruyama MM-0101 Black Gold thus combines a significant silhouette with one of the brand's most profoundly Japanese references: black acetate, golden Kintsugi lines, and deliberately imperfect geometries give life to eyewear with a strong personality that is sophisticated and immediately recognizable.
